Undergraduates Aubrey Swilling and Roberto Hasbun were awarded the Provost’s Undergraduate Research Scholarship for Spring 2016, while Umair Akbar was awarded the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship for Summer 2016. Aubrey has been working on validating protein biomarkers for rheumatoid arthritis and Roberto’s focus has been on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Umair’s project will focus on identifying novel biomarkers in saliva for SLE and Sjogren’s syndrome.
Marwa Kharboutli successfully defended her senior honors thesis entitled, “Identification of Novel Protein Biomarkers for Inflammatory Bowel Disease.” She has also recently graduated with University Honors with Honors in Major from the Biomedical Engineering department and the Honors College. Congrats Marwa!
